Adolescents, Teens, Adults and Couples Therapist in Marin County
The choice to seek therapy usually means something inside of us is wanting to change and grow. This evolution can be painful and confusing, as well as exciting and hopeful. Choosing the right therapist for this process is a highly personal decision. That person must first and foremost be someone we can connect with. Whether brief or long term, entering therapy is embarking on a journey. My work is to be a compassionate and educated guide on that journey. Building a relationship to understand who you are and where you want to go is the key to successful therapy.
My Approach
In general my style is warm, honest and insightful. I will thrive to fully see you, and in turn, help you see yourself as capable, possessed of dignity and present in the world for a purpose. We will work together to cultivate clarity and inspiration, integrating the wisdom of mind, heart and body.
Therapy is a combination of: making room for the client’s inner knowing be present, and the therapist’s larger psychological view that includes concrete tools and information. Working in collaboration is essential.
The journey can be as short or long as you need. Sometimes we just need help in clarifying our existing wisdom and acquiring some tools; other times we need help in forging new paths, with a deeper knowing of ourselves. When we increase our self-awareness, we have more conscious choice, and with choice we have personal power.
In my approach with Teens and Adolescence I think it is import to recognize that it is a time of significant change and growth, often accompanied by challenges such as identity formation, peer pressure, and academic stress. Therapy provides a supportive environment for adolescents to develop coping mechanisms, build self-esteem, and navigate the complexities of this stage of life. I work with adolescents to identify and address underlying issues, improve communication skills, and foster healthy relationships.
Awareness = Choice = Power
Support for Couples
One of the techniques I use is EFT (Emotional Focused Therapy). We would begin by creating a safe and supportive environment for the couple. I then work to identify the underlying emotional patterns and communication styles that are contributing to their difficulties. By exploring these patterns, I can help the couple to understand how their emotions are affecting their relationship and develop healthier ways of communicating and connecting. EFT often involves exercises such as “attunement” and “mirroring,” which help couples to deepen their emotional connection and empathy for each other. I may also guide the couple through specific techniques to address underlying emotional wounds and break negative cycles. Communication is a key element in any healthy relationship.
